Canvas Giclée prints stretched on heavy duty wooden frames offer many advantages. Foremost is that they have the look and feel of fine art. They are light in weight, yet strong. And the optimum placement of lighting is simpler and more effective than with prints behind glass. Here is an example from our studio. Illumination is provided by overhead track lighting, two 50 and one 75 watt flood:

Aside from adding significant weight, glass scatters light. And those "special" glasses significantly degrade viewing. This is true of glass with a finely ground surface (light is scattered in every direction and vibrance is lost) or those with thin film coatings (colored reflections result, seriously affecting viewing). And they are very expensive. Nevertheless, it may be necessary to place prints behind glass in some display areas. We do offer custom framing behind glass. Call or e-mail for a quote.
We exercise great care in stretching and finishing our canvases. The prints are made on a matte surfaced cotton-polyester canvas that is strong and stable. A protective overcoat provides protection from UV light extending display life (time to noticeable change) from 80 to well over 100 years. These estimates are based on "normal" display (no direct sunlight). The coating can be varied from matte to glossy. We prefer what might be termed a semi-semigloss because lighting and viewing are not seriously affected. However, because of the structure of the canvas, lighting and viewing of prints with a glossy overcoat display well. Note, below, the heavy duty solid wood stretcher bars with our brand, the braided stainless steel wire, nickel plated hardware, padding to prevent wall damage and detailed fininishing to and beyond the beautifully crafted corners.
